God is infinite, and therefore existence and non-existence are merely His counterparts. Not that I wish to say that God is made up of definite component parts. Realization is nothing but seeing God literally. Our greatest mistake is that we think of God as acting symbolically nd allegorically, instead of practically and literally.
Take a piece of glass, paint colours and forms onto it, and put the same into a magic lantern, turn on a little light, and the colours and the forms painted on the glass are reproduced on the screen. If that light were not turned on, you would not see the colours of the slide on the screen. How are colours formed?
Sankhya and Yoga – Two Prominent Hindu Philosophies
By breaking up white light with a many sided prism. It is seen when the light of Life God is shining through it, ie. If the man is sleeping or dead you do not see his character. If white light had not been broken up and put into forms and shapes on our magic lantern slide, we should never have known that there was a piece of glass in front of the light, for the light would have shone clearly through. Ina sense that white light was marred, and had some of its clearness taken form it by having to shine through the colours on the glass.
So it is with the ordinary man. His mind is like the screen. On it shines light, dulled and changed becasue he has allowed the many -sided world to stand in the way of the Light God and broken it up. He sees only the effects of the Light instead of the Light God Himself and his mind reflects the effects he sees just as the screen reflects the colours of the glass. Take away the prism and the colours vanish, absorbed back into the white light whence they came. Take away the colours from the slide and the light shines clearly through. Take away from our sight the wordl of effects we see, and let us look only into the cause, and we shall see the Light God.
A Master in meditation, though the ears and eyes be open, fixes his attention so firmly on THAT which sees that he neither sees nor hears, nor has any phsycial consciousness at all — nor mental either , but onlny spiritual. We must take away the world, which causes our doubts, which clouds our mind, and the light of God will shine clearly through. How is the world taken away? What are sins? Why, for example, does a man drink too much? Becasue he hates the idea of being bound — bound by the incapacity to drink as much a he wishes.
He is striving after liberty in every sin he commits. For God knows that he is not bound. Drinking too much does not give a man liberty, but then the man does not know that he is really seeking liberty. When he realizes that, he sets about seeking the best way to obtain liberty. But the man only gains that liberty when he realizes that he was never bound.
I am bound because I know nothing that I do not sense by one of the senses. Whereas I am all the time that which senses in every body in every mind. Controlling the modifications of the mind through breath retention can lead to Samadhi of bliss, with the sakti rising to the crown chakra, but does not lead to permanent self abidance, as the vasanas in the heart return after the bliss of samadhi. However, these samadhis give glimpses that lead to further enthusiasm in meditation, and eventual strength of inquiry to dispel ego and stay fixed in the Heart.
Inquiry is the more direct way than yoga as it is the ultimate relinquishing and letting go of the ego born of matured wisdom of self knowledge, and the clarity that dispels the identifiction with the vasanas as separate from the one Self. Complete balance and equanimity. The primary aim should be to become Masters of yourselves, to hold intimate and constant communion with the Divine that is in you as well as in the Universe of which you are a part.
For this, it is accepted that the earlier concepts shared can be made reference to with a familiarity that permits a few presumptions. With the addition of the concept of Ajata, or non-causality, at the other conceptual extreme, this makes a total of 5 aspects as opposed to the classical 3 that are usually found in Vedanta — of dualism, qualified non-dualism and non-dualism. We are in the car, but not the car. In the same way, it is through the above 5 conceptual levels or gears that most movements of the mind makes it assumptions to think.
Thus, any assertion or negation, even of an advaitic slogan or Mahavakya, is made by the mind and, is not That or it. However, the words assist in strengthening the conviction to still the introverted mind of thoughts by the spiritual Heart, Being or Love. They all point to something beyond the mind and its assertions and negations.
On a relative level, concepts and words are used to remove grosser concepts until the discrimination has refined and released all thoughts and operates intuitively as Pure Consciousness. The Vedas have an explanation for this apparent development of mind; from Supermind to Higher mind to Illumined mind to Over mind. But, Realisation, the Self and Reality lies beyond all these levels and is Absolute. The classic example used to highlight this is that of using a thorn to remove a thorn, and then the thorn is no longer needed.
Gear 3. That the outer 5 elements, the inner 5 senses or organs of knowledge , 5 organs of action, 5 pranas and the 4 components of the mind all reveal that knowledge 5 elements and senses depends on a knower the mind , but that these are one in Consciousness knower, knowing and known. It just appears to be real to those dreaming in unreality of…. And, perhaps the middle gear of qualified non-dualism and Sankhya metaphysics will hep the most in this regard; with a constant integrated awareness that the phenomenal world of 5 elements are appearing through the 5 senses, and operating the body through the 5 pranas and the 5 organs of action.
But throughout all this, be the detached witness to its appearance in the mind; the reflecting medium based on the conditioned memory. By keeping this attitude of qualified non-dualism, that everything only appears in the NOW when you are there to perceive it, dissolves the illusion of past and future, and the dangerous limitations of dualism that keep one constrainted in time and space; extrovertly extrapolating a future worry or desire , or in infinite regress of some past fear or memory.
Otherwise, you might be in danger of becoming the funnier than the farce itself! A note on the dangers of premature Jnanis or Advaita will be added on to this post in the next couple of days. In short, often intellectual processing can go so far as to get confused for a kundalini awakening! Sincere, disciplined self-inquiry and regular mediation are often required before knowledge gets transmuted by grace into experience. This, whether true or not, can lead to a dangerous laziness, self-satisfied complacency, and defeatist attitude in the resolute effort needed, not only to understand, but to still the mind and realise the Self.
Anyway, this earlier post, being on the heavier side, I will digest myself to see if it requires editing, or is suffering from indigestion! It will be continually updated with information, links and You tube videos. O Arunachala, the Supreme Itself! Be Thou the Sun and open the lotus of my heart in Bliss!

The 11 rudras represent aspects of His power, of which, Hanuman was the greatest embodiment.
However, for now, I will leave you with a poem by one of the greatest Advaita phiolsophers of ancient India on the essence of Siva. I am not mind, wisdom, pride, and heart. Neither I am ear and tongue nor I am nose and eyes. Neither I am sky or earth nor I am power or wind. I am the eternal happiness or bliss state, I am Shiv, I am Shiv. I am not the state of being alive or the five type of Vayu. Neither I am the seven elements constituting the body Dhatu nor I am the five sheaths which invest the soul.
Neither I am voice, hand, or leg nor I am the portion at the bottom of waist anus or Linga. I am not the state of envy and passion or the emotions of greed and attachment. Neither I am intoxication nor I am the emotion of jealousy. Also, I am not the food, or the one that should be eaten, or the eater.
I am eternal happiness or bliss state, I am Shiv, I am Shiv. Neither I am the fear of death nor I am the difference between races. Neither I am [any relation like] father, mother, nor I am born. Also, I am not a relative, a friend, a teacher Guru , or a student Shisya.
I am free from changes, and lack all the qualities and form. I envelope all forms from all sides and am beyond the sense-organs. I am always in the state of equality — there is no liberation Mukti or captivity Bandha. Note that Arunachala is the most sacred place; the axis mundi and Heart of the World. It is called Siva Sthana, and is the abode of fire. It attracts those ripe in Jnana wisdom , and even to remember and think of it regularly grants the magnetic Grace from within for knowledge of the Self. Mahasivaratri is also celebrated here, and mythologically, symbolises the marriage with Sakti Consciousness when all the Gods and beings pay homage to the formless Reality and Grace.
Throughout India and Nepal, there are many lingam temples, but the most important are the Jyothi light lingams. All around India and the world Hindus, Yogis and Siva devotees pay special importance to spiritual life on this most auspicious day of Mahasivaratri. For more on Siva you can refer to the book list below Gems are often the most common and passive means of remedial used, by which planetary influences are harmonised.
Gems, in there crystalised form, carry a high ether and light content, and through the ether of consciousness and the elctro-magnetic resonance and nadis of the body, help the individual imbibe more of the planetary influence. Through the 7 rays of light, within the infrared kethu and ultra-violet Rahu spectrum, gems act through light and colour to add rays into the psyche of the recipient.
Note that gems, metals and herbs can, in vedic and chinese medicine, all be correlated metaphysically to their corresponding planets. Traditionally, in India, this has included devotion to the forces of nature, life-force or deity; often through devotional singing via the healing combination on the head ie.
For this, jyotish and the timing of remedial according to the cycles of nature are important, as well as a holistic approach that balances common sense and experience with reason and intuition. In India, a jiva is the immortal essence of a living being human, animal, plant etc. It has a very similar usage to atma, but whereas atma refers to the self, jiva is used to denote a living entity specifically.
The concept of the jiva is similar to the concept of the soul as presented in Abrahamic religions. A web site is under construction. In fact, Chinese metaphysics compliments Indian systems. In Advaita Vedanta, this is represented by the symbolism of the Yoni Lingam. Surya Namaskar. Thus, Yoga brings the subconscious, and then the unconscious under conscious and ultimately superconscious control by natural means. Following is an introduction to these 3 levels ending with a simple 10 step process to a Solar Yoga or Sun worship. Please check out the links.
There are some good ones for the Surya Namaskar for those of you interested or not familiar with the Gayatri Mantra. Physiotherapy is a paramedical health profession that is part of the mainstream bio-medical model which subscribes to the authority of the scientific method and is an accepted part of the medical institution.
It involves manual handling, exercise prescription and education and covers all aspects from orthopaedics to neurology to cardio-respiratory medicine. Its focuses is on rehabilitative medicine and deals mainly with bio-mechanics, movement science and the musculo-skelatal system of the body. One of the main principles of this is the fact that muscles use the bones as levers to cause movement and depends on the antagonistic relationship of muscles. This means that often muscles must work in opposition via vector forces to effect movement in the desired direction under the control and co-ordination of the brain and nervous system.
This relationship between muscle working in tandem depends on the length-strength relationship between them. If across a single axis hinge joint there are two muscles if one contracts and shortens the other must relax and lengthen. In physiotherapy treatments and exercise prescription, this it is often a vital aspect of a physiotherapist job to use this principle to correct the muscle balance in localised areas of the clients body; whether as part treating tone in a stroke patient or training an elite athlete.
This flexibility and strength allows optimal movement as well as contributes to ones overall posture. It is with regards to this aspect of posture that Yoga follows the same bio-mechanical principles. Rather than across one or two joints, Yoga effectively leads to the same flexibility, tone and strength throughout the whole body by the same principles of stretching and isotonic strengthening leading to optimal length and strength of muscles and ultimately flexibility of body posture and indirectly mind.
It is also useful to note that many yoga instructors do not have a foundation in anatomy, physiology and movement science as physiotherapists do. By understanding bio-mechanics yoga instructors who are so trained are more able to detect compensatory and incorrect movements in their students but also better able to adopt and modify postures to suite those students with pathologies, injuries or limitations such as the obese. Yoga also compliments internal systemic medicine through its pranayama component.
By combining with deep breathing Yoga postures, which stretch specific internal organs and on releasing the position, increase well oxygenated blood to circulate more deeply into the tissues to remove toxins and increase life to these areas. This compliments the other Indian health practice of Ayurveda that is a natural alternative to allopathy. Thus, Yoga helps for both bio-mechanically for the musculo-skeletal and bio-chemically for the internal organs and endocrinal systems.
Also, by holding the stretches in a prolonged position it strengthens the will and nervous system. Thus, the whole purpose is for health to have muscles of iron and nerves of steel to deal with the challenges of life and living. Yoga in Daily Life in Physiotherapy. Example of Holistic Health School. Good video of Surya Nmaskar. Video of Surya Namaskar with the 12 Sun mantras. Mantras for the 12 asanas or postures in the Surya Namaskar. Whilst the 12 above mantras can be used with each position, the most important one to consider is the Gayatri Mantra in the actual position of Sun prostration itself; the 6th asana.
Surrender is the natural state of beyond being and becoming; the up and the down; the person, the prostration and That to which He prostates; yet all remains One, all the same.
I am That I am However, what is also important is the significance of the position of the head and the chest in this position. Likewise, chest should be held in position without any other part of the touching the Earth; except the feet and hands which serve the purpose of maintaining this specific stance. This prepares the mind to receive the solar electromagnetic energy in the next 6th prostration position. However, the Gayatri has metaphysical advantages to do with the vibration inherent in the Sanskrit language.
Interestingly, in Jyotish Vedic Astrology , the Sun rules the brain, spine and crown chakra and gets exalted in Aries which governs the 3rd chakra or solar plexus; revealing the importance of the Sun in providing light that gets transformed into digestive fire and energy for the entire body. Gayatri Mantra Sun Salutation.
